Abi's work deals with the psychology of colour and the importance of retaining the emotive, sublime qualities of paint as a form of communication, especially within today's digitally saturated society. She sometimes collages found media into the surface of the paintings, blending boundaries between realism and abstraction. She often works with no preconceived aesthetic in mind, subconsciously controlling the surface through obsessive bold layering. This process generates fluid expressive paintings, resonant with traditions of classical influences. Her paintings play with light & evoke emotion through intensity of colour and thick application of texture, built up through weeks and weeks of layers. She invites the viewer to interpret her imagery in their own way, allowing both maker and viewer to control the work.
